About
of Borneo
Ready for adventure? Our next expedition takes us to the heart of Borneo, this mythical island in Southeast Asia, shared between Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Sultanate of Brunei. Here, under an equatorial climate, exceptional biodiversity flourishes, with forests sheltering nearly 6% of the world's biodiversity, while the island represents only 1% of the Earth's landmass.
But Borneo is not just a natural sanctuary; it is also home to numerous indigenous communities facing major challenges. And among these challenges, our documentary will address the issue of palm oil.

About
Palm oil
Borneo is one of the world's leading centers for palm oil production. Thanks to its unbeatable yield, with harvesting possible every 8 days as early as 3 years after planting, this crop quickly established itself as one of the most profitable. However, its explosive expansion since the 20th century has caused massive deforestation and soil depletion, thus disrupting the island's ecosystems. Palm oil, present in a multitude of food, cosmetic, and biofuel products, is appealing because of its low cost. Yet, this profitability and its omnipresence on the market come at a price.
A global issue rooted in a local context.
